Rising from the Ashes

LordPHX

Who is LordPHX?

I am a music artist who shares my story in hopes of inspiring others to overcome hardships. Even though my career popped off in Phoenix, my rap name actually doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that I lived there. It is tied to the phoenix bird. The myth states that the bird is reborn from its ashes. After my parents and grandparents passed away when I was a kid, life was hard for me. But I overcame the disadvantages of not having a stable home and guidance of an adult role model. I rose from the ashes just like the phoenix. I added “Lord” to the beginning of my name for motivational purposes. It reminds me of the power I do have and my mission is to let others know of their own power, too.

I was born in Maryland and my grandparents raised me because my mother and father died suddenly when I was 3 years old. When you experience loss at such a young age, you don’t know any different. So I wouldn’t say my pain has defined me, but I have a built-in resilience that has carried me through other hardships life had for me down the road.

My earliest memories of connecting to music are from when I was 8 years old when I would write rhymes in a composition book. I wrote a lot during the long car rides to see family. The writing made those boring drives much easier. My grandmother actually didn't want me listening to hip-hop, but I'd hear it when cars drove past and I'd turn my head like, "What is that?!" I was hooked.

When I was 11, my grandmother moved my brother and me to Orlando. The change was hard, but my grandmother let us play basketball with the neighbors, which helped me get connected. Then my grandparents also passed away when I was a teenager.

Dealing with the loss of family, music was a way I could express myself. When I was 18, I booked my first studio session at Stable Studios when I was still in Orlando. The experience opened my eyes to what I could do as an artist and how I could convey a message through music. I started doing local shows and I received really encouraging feedback that fueled me to keep going in my journey.

When I was 20, I decided to move to Phoenix where I thought I’d have a new opportunity to build a fanbase and that’s exactly what happened. My music was on the radio, I got features from major artists and I was able to tour and do shows expanding my presence.

My time in Phoenix allowed me to see life in even more cities by doing shows in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver and Albuquerque. These experiences solidified my calling and I decided to fully commit to music.

In January of 2024, it was time for another move. This time, I took my talents to Houston and it was the best move I’ve made in my life.

Only a month into my new home, I released “Moneyline,” which has been my most successful song yet. I’m really proud of this song because it sounds very relevant, but has a unique message. I wanted to express my confidence in being a one-woman man. This is the opposite of what a lot of music says today, but one of the most important values to me is commitment, which I talk about on the song.

Other people are loving the song, too. DJ Palmo played “Moneyline” at Houston Rockets games last season and DJ Mad Mardigan played it during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ run in the NBA Playoffs. DJ Gno played it during an Indiana Fever home game where Caitlin Clark warmed up to my song! Another big moment was when DJ Esco, yes, the one who was Future’s right hand man, had me perform “Moneyline” at a Memorial Day event in Houston. Saynt Chris, the Houston Texans DJ, along with DJs for the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers are also planning on playing the song during the upcoming NFL season, so I’m hyped for that.

I’ve been making music for more than a decade. It hasn’t been easy, but the commitment I sing about on “Moneyline” isn’t just about my girl. It’s my whole lifestyle. Showing others that you can be whatever you want to be in life no matter how bad things may get as long as you stay positive and keep pushing forward is my primary purpose in life. You might even get little surprises along the way. I’m actually in a movie! Catch me in “Dead in a Day” coming to Amazon Prime and Tubi soon. It stars Jamal Woolard, who played The Notorious B.I.G. in “Notorious.”

I’m not going to stop anytime soon because I feel like the name I’ve chosen for myself is truer than ever. I’m on fire.
