I'm the one that's livin' lavish like I'm playin' for the Mavericks....
March Madness is upon us and the championship is set to find out what is the best song by an athlete. Aaron Gordon's "Pull Up" took on Flau'jae's "Ready or Not Freestyle" in Kick The Concrete's Big Dance Tournament finale.
In honor of the men's and women's NCAA Tournaments, Kick The Concrete created our own bracket challenge. For our Big Dance celebration, in partnership with Aktiv8d, we made a 32-song bracket featuring athlete-artists from boxing, baseball, basketball, football, soccer and Formula 1.
The tournament played out on Instagram, where you voted for your favorite songs while the basketball tournaments were going on.
Flau'jae dominated her opponents and had both of her songs, "Came Out a Beast" and "Ready or Not Freestyle" in the Final Four. Her Lil Wayne-assisted hit lost to Gordon's "Pull Up" but she beat out one of the greatest athlete songs of all time, Shaq's "You Can't Stop the Reign" in the semifinals.
In the first round, we had some blowouts as you had some clear favorites. Memphis Depay's "No Love" and Lewis Hamilton's appearance on Christina Aguilera's "Pipe" got one hundred percent of the votes in their respective battles to face each other in the Sweet 16. The Formula 1 champion reigned supreme and faced Flau'jae's "Came Out a Beast" in the Elite 8.
There was also an upset where Gordon's "Pull Up" beat out Shedeur Sanders' "Perfect Timing" and Clint Demsey's "Don't Tread" to reach the quarterfinals. The Nuggets forward had one of six songs by a basketball player in the Elite 8. Damian Lillard also had two tracks in the round, but lost both his battles.
Listen to the contenders battling for the title on Spotify, including tracks from Damian Lillard, Roy Jones Jr., Flau'jae, Duke Riley, Lewis Hamilton, Jose Iglesias, Deion Sanders and Memphis Depay.
Since Allen Iverson's "40 Bars" and Clint Dempsey's "Don't Tread" are not on streaming services, listen to them here.
Hopefully you'll enjoy some well-known bangers and discover something new!
