Darren Waller shocked the football world last season by coming out of retirement to join the Miami Dolphins. Now, the tight end is a free agent and it's unsure what his football journey holds. But one thing's for sure, he's still going strong with music.
This week, Waller released "In The Valley," an emotive track about persevering in the hard times and remaining grounded in one's self and faith in God. The track arrived with an accompanying visual, which was shot in Big Sur by Marquis Garden. The incredible cinematography shows magnificent views of the cliffs overlooking the ocean. There is also symbolism where Waller lies in a field of flowers and rises to represent personal growth and overcoming criticism meant to tear someone down. He has been transparent about his own battle with addiction and now uses his platform to raise awareness about mental health.
“The greatest transformations in my life and well-being all started in the moments I felt I hit some sort of bottom," Waller said in a statement. "This song is about not giving up. The 'valley' isn't just a low point, it's where the growth happens. Whether it's on the field or in life, your setbacks don't define your destiny, they prepare you for it."
JRod, who Waller collaborates with frequently, produced the track with Nia C and Zee Dolla. They combined Gospel and trap to create an uplifting soundscape. JRod and Waller are continuing to work on the "Cadillac Problems" EP, which is slated for a spring release.
"In The Valley" further shows Waller's diversity as an artist. The soulful song comes after the success of last year's motivational anthem "Top Play."
