Pato O'Ward is one of the most exciting names in motorsport right now. The McLaren driver is currently second in the IndyCar standings after finishing as the runner-up at the Thermal Club Grand Prix. He was in Los Angeles during the week ahead of the Grand Prix of Long Beach soaking up some sun and giving back to the community.
On Wednesday, O'Ward was a special guest at the Petersen Automotive Museum for a Driver's Day event. Admission to the museum was free for kids all day and local schools attended the event as a field trip.
O'Ward spoke to elementary school kids, including fifth graders from Fourth Street Elementary, in a moderated conversation where some of the students got to ask questions. He encouraged them not to be shy. One asked what he was having for lunch and another shouted out, "pizza!"
"No, man, you've got to take care of yourself," O'Ward said, before adding, "You can never go wrong with tacos."

The students were then led outside for a photo opp with O'Ward and an electric blue McLaren 720S. They were given gift bags with a racecar craft and a bag of Mission tortilla chips. Many of the students are of Mexican heritage, so it was extra special to interact with and be inspired by the Mexican driver, who is also a reserve driver for McLaren's Formula 1 team.
The sunny day included lunch and quality time with friends before the school year lets out.
