Disco Balls, Legos and the Griddy: A recap of the 2025 F1 Miami Grand Prix

The 2025 Miami Grand Prix was full of thrills on and off the track. The 10 teams navigated rainy conditions throughout the weekend and embraced the vibrant city.

Oscar Piastri took Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on a Hot Lap. K-Pop singer Rosé waved the checkered flag at the sprint race. And, oh yeah, Max Verstappen became a dad.

History was made on the track during sprint qualifying on Friday. Kimi Antonelli, at 18 years old, became the youngest driver to ever earn a pole position. In doing so, he also set the fastest lap at the circuit with a time of 1m 26.482s. While four of his fellow rookies did not finish the race on Sunday, the Italian driver continues to prove why Toto Wolff took a gamble on him to fill Lewis Hamilton’s shoes. And why Netflix made a whole documentary about him. It’s called “The Seat,” by the way, and is out now.

Lando Norris continues to be good friends with the safety car. He won the sprint race behind the safety car, beating out his teammate, Oscar Piastri, with the help of a decision to pit early and a crash by Fernando Alonso. He captured his maiden victory in Miami last year under similar conditions.

The Australian driver got his revenge in the actual race on Sunday when he crossed the checkered flag first for his fourth win this year. Norris grabbed second place and maintains the position behind his teammate in the drivers standings. The McLarens were dominant as George Russell rounded out the podium with a third place finish – more than 30 seconds behind.

F1 Academy was also on the track in Miami this weekend for its third race of the season. Mercedes driver Doriane Pin captured the victory after starting third on the grid. She is now one point behind Maya Weug in the drivers championship.

Here are Kick The Concrete's highlights from the 2025 F1 Miami Grand Prix:

Oscar Piastri's Griddy celly was co-signed by Justin Jefferson

Oscar Piastri celebrated winning the Miami Grand Prix with his best rendition of the griddy. It was a little choppy, but a moment of fun from the fairly stoic driver. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was on site over the weekend and apparently had a challenge for the F1 star.

“Alright, Justin, I came through on the bet, I attempted the griddy,” Piastri said in an Instagram video after the race. “Was it pretty? No. Did I stay true to my word? Yes. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope you enjoyed. That is the first and only time I’ll do the griddy. I’ll leave it up to you.”

“You did just fine,” the Pro Bowler responded in the comments with a laughing emoji. “We gone work on the dance moves another time just keep winning brother!!”

Daniel Ricciardo’s Enchanté announced Racing Bulls F1 Academy sponsorship

Daniel Ricciardo might not be on the grid this season, but his presence is felt across race weekends. His Enchanté brand had a pop-up at his home race, the Australian Grand Prix, and the company announced a sponsorship of Racing Bulls’ F1 Academy in Miami. Enchanté will be the team’s “official lifestyle apparel partner” and had a cool black T-shirt with a white design for the weekend. Racing Bulls F1 Academy driver Rafaela Ferreira gifted actor Timothée Chalamet with a T-shirt while he visited the garage.

Cadillac F1 Team continues to build hype with reveal event

This is how to do chrome right.

After much anticipation, the Cadillac F1 Team finally made its big reveal over the weekend of the Miami Grand Prix. Fitting given that the team will be the second American team on the grid next season and, in 2029, will have GM power units, making them the only American-powered outfit.

While there’s no news on the drivers who will race for Cadillac in 2026 yet, the team did have an event with a performance from Janelle Monáe and a launch video full of pizzazz. The clip revealed the team will primarily have a black and white aesthetic, which we love. With accents of chrome in fashionable offerings like a bodysuit and a windbreaker.

Much better than that Jiffy Pop adidas jacket Mercedes has been passing around…

Lando Norris and Alex Albon have stiff helmet competition

Lando Norris kept his streak of helmet excellence at the Miami Grand Prix alive. He continued with the ball theme and this year wowed with a disco ball helmet! The glitzy lid featured actual mirror tiles that shone VERY brightly. Fans were concerned about safety on the track, but it turns out the actual helmet was a chrome vinyl sticker.

Norris’ past Miami Grand Prix helmets include a basketball and, our favorite, a beach ball.

Alex Albon is a close second as he had some fun with a helmet made to look like an orange. The fruit is so closely tied with the Sunshine State that oranges are featured on Florida’s license plates. The helmet, created by Massimo Dante and MDM Designs, rocks because of its simplicity. The bold color with the little produce stickers and the stem and leaf on top is *chef’s kiss.

Albon has given Norris tough competition for best helmet in the past, especially with his golf ball helmet that he debuted with the help of his significant other, professional golfer Lily He.

Racing Bulls Put on Pink Livery Masterclass

While Alpine will always be “the pink team,” which they made sure to remind fans of over the weekend, Racing Bulls impressed with a pretty great pink livery for the Miami Grand Prix.

The vibrant color fits right into the 305 vibes. Remember the Miami Heat’s Vice City uniforms? This was lively in that same vein and an excellent follow-up to their ombre livery for last year’s race.

Yes, it was a promotion for Red Bull Summer Edition. This team, formerly known as Visa Cash App RB, can’t help but sneak in a little marketing move whenever it can. But the look is so good, down to the wheel covers made to look like the top of the can, pop tab and all.

The team really committed to the tropical tone and Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar were decked out in the same vibrant shade of pink all weekend.

Alpine x Duke + Dexter collab

Something Alpine did take the crown with this weekend is their merch collab. The team partnered with Duke + Dexter, a London-based clothing company known for their fun penny loafers and classy cool style, for a Miami Grand Prix capsule collection. The hand-drawn graphics and sleek lines really stood out. There was a racing jacket ($400), long sleeve T-shirt ($200) and short sleeve T-shirt ($100) all featuring that perfect pop of pink.

Lego Cars Stole the Show at Drivers’ Parade

While F1 traditionalists and some of the drivers have decried the spectacle that the Miami Grand Prix offers, one quirky element of this year’s competition had everyone smiling. For the drivers’ parade ahead of the race on Sunday, the drivers rode around the track in almost life-size Lego cars.

Each team had a custom car built to look like their own F1 car, down to the sponsor logos, with two seats to fit both drivers. Think Mario Kart: Double Dash. According to F1, each car was made of almost 400,000 bricks, weighed 1,000 kilograms and was pretty zippy too. The Lego team of 26 designers, engineers and builders took 22,000 hours to craft the cars.

The drivers had a ball whizzing around the track, laughing and crashing into each other.

Mercedes asked the question we all had on our minds.

“Can we PLEASE do this every weekend @F1 and @LEGO_Group?”
