The NBA Summer League is a chance for rookies and NBA hopefuls to make a splash. Not only is it their first time wearing an NBA uniform, it's in Las Vegas, where the fun is always flowing. On Monday, the Miami Heat ousted the Memphis Grizzlies 120–118 to take the 2024 Summer League title.
But Swish Cultures made sure that Summer League started off right with the Swish Cultures Family Reunion Party. The event was held on July 12, the first day of the competition, at the Marquee Nightclub's Boom Box Room (the club inside the one and only Cosmo) with sounds by Crystal the DJ and Earry Hall.
Both DJs played top hits in the rap game, mirroring the sounds of the expertly curated highlight videos that are a key part of Swish Cultures' brand. The event was an extension of the positive energy that Swish Cultures exudes in the basketball content space, where it is the only 100 percent Black-owned media company. The party, which was sponsored by Google Pixel, Bose and Huel, is expected to be an annual affair.
"We've been wanting to do events for a while now and it was finally the right timing, we had the resources and opportunity to host one," Swish Cultures COO Ashten Smith-Gooden, who founded the company with her brother, CEO Jordan Richard, told Kick the Concrete. "We have always been a family business and are grateful to have so many connections and people who have supported us along the way. So that's why we named the party 'Family Reunion' because we wanted it to be a celebration of all that support."
NBA players Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks, Caris LeVert and Isaiah and Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Kobe Brown of the Los Angeles Clippers dropped by to celebrate and so did former Sacramento Kings player Chima Moneke and comedian Da Kid Gowie. There joy was infectious as people were beaming from the step and repeat to the dance floor.
