Love was in the air this weekend for Valentine's Day, especially in the basketball world.
A few athletes took the opportunity to show off their musical side. She might be the scoring leader for the LSU Tigers, but Flau'jae doesn't want you to forget she's an artist too. NBA veteran Aaron Gordon might be struggling with injuries this season, but he surprised fans when he dropped a vibey single of his own.
Elsewhere, P-Lo shared his "For The Soil" EP bringing The Bay together to celebrate NBA All-Star Weekend. Remember "Players Holiday '25?" There's more where that came from.
The assist queen this week is Jorja Smith, who dished an immaculate lob to AJ Tracey, and Dreebo delivered his own something special for the lovers.
Here's the Kick The Concrete Valentine's Day music report:
Flau'jae — "Flau & B" EP
Flau'jae made waves with her debut project, "Best of Both Worlds" because she showed her capacity as a rapper and even hung with Lil Wayne. The LSU basketball star gave fans a glimpse into a new side of her artistry with the "Flau & B" EP. It's made up of seven tracks where Flau'jae "poured my whole heart onto the mic," she said on Instagram. She has a smooth voice and adds just enough autotune that the songs sound relevant without being robotic. She reminds everyone that she has bars on "OTW" and shows extra emotion over a bass-heavy beat from Mike Zombie of "Started from the Bottom" fame on "Blind Love."
Aaron Gordon — "Too close" Single
Who knew that NBA veteran Aaron Gordon could sing? We sure didn't... But he has been releasing music sporadically since 2020 and his latest is the vibey single, "Too close." It's a play off the myth of Icarus who fell from the sky when he got too close to the sun. Gordon shows impressive range and can actually hold a high note.
AJ Tracey ft. Jorja Smith — "Crush" Single
British rapper AJ Tracey has a new album on the way and he kicked off the rollout with the bop of a single called "Crush." He reunited with the amazing Jorja Smith for the track, which samples Brandy's "Love Wouldn't Count Me Out." The two previously worked together on his upbeat garage song "Ladbroke Grove." On the new offering, she impresses not only with her angelic voice, but by spitting a few bars! Tracey holds his own, too, with his signature gritty voice and lines like "I don't wanna wear my heart on my top or sleeve/Unless it's the CDG" for a fun little wordplay on the Comme Des Garçons logo.
Dreebo — "Love Language" EP
Los Angeles-based singer Dreebo has sprinkled his vocals throughout the rap game, including on Damian Lillard's "Home Team." There's no direct basketball ties to Dreebo's latest project, the "Love Language" EP, but he continues his run of catchy hooks and a cool mixture of trap and R&B. "Halo" has an island vibe to it and is a spin off Beyoncé's song of the same name and "Jody" discusses the importance of persevering through the difficulties of relationships complete with a clip from "Baby Boy."
P-Lo — "For The Soil" EP
While P-Lo's "For the Soil" EP isn't exactly meant for Valentine's Day, it is a love letter to the Bay Area in celebration of NBA All-Star Weekend. The first single for the Golden State Entertainment project was the infectious "Players Holiday '25," which brought together Saweetie, G-Eazy, LaRussell, Larry June, Kamaiyah, thủy and YMTK. P-Lo continues the collaborative spirit by having the legend Too $hort on the menacing "Had To" and rising Oakland star Michael Sneed on "Too Wavy" and "Simple." The horns bridging "Iso" to the closer "Suede" with critically-acclaimed Goapele add a touch of soul.
